Play Is The Work Of Children
– Friedrich Froebel
YES !
There are no better tools to for the important business of play than the following:
1.
Building Blocks
2.
Crayons, Pencil and Paper
3.
Scissors and Glue
Give a child these tools and step back to watch as they create a world of wonder. A six year old child can bend over the arduous task of planning out the world’s next robot dragon with the precision and delight of a rocket scientist with his own paper, pencil. (and perhaps calculator….because adults get cool electronic gadgets like calculators)
What can take the most talented team of aerospace engineers years to accomplish can be carefully and artfully designed and built by a serious six year old at play in a day.....or maybe several weeks if Mom and Dad keep insisting he stops for naps and potty breaks.
I say this with all the authority of one who has observed both a six year old robot dragon designer and a room full of aerospace engineers at play. I acknowledge that the paper airplanes designed by the engineers perhaps flew farther than the robot dragon, but I believe they lacked the dragon's aesthetic appeal.
